CDS Shortwave is a multi-screen web app that showcases audio content produced at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University. It is an experiment that draws on analog modes of discovery to create new ways of interacting with digital media.
Drawing from the metaphor of a shortwave radio, users tune in to randomized audio by rotating their smartphone on a flat surface. By transmitting the smartphone’s motion sensor data to a tethered desktop browser in real-time, gestural metaphors transform the user’s phone into an analog knob or dial.
